Vehicle Rental - Recent Price Trend

In the three years to 2018, the average price of vehicle rentals has been increasing at an estimated average annual rate of 6.4%. Fuel costs are largely passed on to buyers in the form of surcharges, but suppliers do sometimes pay for refueling vehicles between rentals. As a result, the rapidly climbing price of crude oil has raised suppliers’ input costs. Suppliers have passed some of this cost.

Vehicle Rental - Total Cost of Ownership

The total cost of ownership associated with renting a vehicle is moderate, but largely discretionary. For a small fee, buyers can choose to insure the car from mechanical issues, collision damage or theft. Although purchasing insurance initially increases the total cost of ownership, the buyer is insulated from the risks associated with damage or theft, which therefore lowers overall ownership.
