The Client While bolstering their risk mitigation program, a large American-owned and -operated manufacturing company took a close look at their biggest suppliers. While their manufacturing operations are fueled by suppliers around the world, the client reported at least 50 first-tier suppliers that operate stateside. Despite being in proximity to many of their large suppliers, this manufacturer has still faced challenges securing the components needed to produce their goods. To better understand the cause of their supply chain issues, the client came to ProcurementIQ for help looking further upstream. The Project To help this manufacturer pinpoint red flags in the second tier of their supply chain, ProcurementIQ set out to trace the origins of several first-tier suppliers’ inputs. To provide the most accurate information, we focused our research on first-tier suppliers that operate within the United States. While information was not available for all of our client’s first-tier suppliers, we were able to tackle many of their largest providers of critical components.

With the first-tier suppliers having anywhere from one upstream supplier to more than 50 upstream suppliers, the time devoted to this research varied significantly from case to case, sometimes exceeding eight hours per supplier.
